School Council

The BSS School Council is an advisory group chaired by Principal Choquette. Members include parents, guardians, community members and teachers. The council meets monthly to discuss ways to strengthen BSS, exchange ideas, and share school information. Dates for each meeting are posted on the school calendar. The council meets the third Wednesday of the month from 3:30 to 5:00 in the main office unless the day is a vacation or non-school day. In that case, the meeting is the following Wednesday. Below is the description of the responsibilities of the school council.

The Massachusetts Education Reform Act outlines four major areas of responsibility for School Councils. Councils assist principals in:

● Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards

● Identifying the educational needs of students attending school

● Reviewing the annual school building budget

● Formulating an annual school improvement plan (click here to learn more about the Council's role with the school improvement plan)
